Home to some of the most aesthetically pleasing and well-decorated cafes I’ve personally ever seen, the cafes in Chiang Mai are an experience to say the least.

Among the many attractions the city offers, its vibrant café scene is something that many tourists look forward to when traveling to Chiang Mai.

During my trip, I visited quite a few cafes, and in this blog post, I’ll share ten cafes that you can visit when in Chiang Mai.

Carp Cafe

Starting this roundup with my favorite cafe in Chiang Mai, the Carp Café is truly one of the most unique cafes I’ve ever visited.

The café is known for its ambiance, which depicts a lovely garden with sunken table booths completely surrounded by koi fish ponds.

The ponds create a calming atmosphere ideal for sipping coffee or enjoying a meal from the cafe’s Japanese and Thai-inspired menu.

The cafe even sells fish food, adding to the immersive experience at the cafe and is something I greatly enjoyed doing during my time at Carp Cafe.

Insider Tip: I would not recommend planning to eat and enjoy a meal at Carp Cafe, as the food is not that great. Many Google reviews share the same sentiment, and I agree. I suggest paying the entrance fee (100 baht last time I visited) or ordering a drink to enjoy the cafe!

Versailles de Flore

Bringing a taste of France to Thailand, Versailles de Flore is one of the cafes in Chiang Mai whose stunning architecture is a standout feature.

Inspired by French cafés, the space is curated with vintage-style décor, soft pastel tones, and floral arrangements.

The café serves a variety of pastries, coffee, and other freshly prepared dishes, making it a perfect spot for breakfast, brunch, or afternoon tea.

Whether lounging by the window with a cappuccino or enjoying one of their signature desserts, Versailles de Flore offers a serene yet sophisticated environment, ideal for relaxation or a catch-up with friends.

Fern Forest Cafe

The Fern Forest Cafe is set within a forest, with most of its seating in a courtyard setting, allowing visitors to dine in harmony with nature.

The tall trees and natural surroundings provide a serene atmosphere, making it a great place to start the day or take a quick break if you’re having a busy one.

The combination of the serene forest setting and thoughtful design creates an environment where time seems to slow down, allowing visitors to relax and unwind fully.

Insider Tip: To the right of the cafe is Calm Massage, where you can opt for a quick relaxation massage before or after your visit.

No.39 Cafe & Eatery

One thing the cafes in Chiang Mai are known for is their amazing scenery, and No.39 Cafe offers its visitors this.

Seating at No.39 Cafe is especially special, as the seats surround a small pond, making it the perfect place to just relax or ponder.

The interior is just as stunning. The walls are lined with soft tones accentuated by exposed brickwork and wooden beams, giving the space a cozy, welcoming vibe.

The large windows also provide guests who opt for indoor seating with a great exterior view.

Chom Cafe and Restaurant

Chom Cafe in Chiang Mai has built a reputation for its stunning aesthetics, attracting visitors from around the world.

To reach the seating areas, you’ll walk along pathways surrounded by steam, mist, and waterfalls, leading you into a lush, tropical moss garden. This reflects Chom’s focus on creating a natural environment that connects guests with nature.

Guests can choose to sit indoors or on the outdoor terrace, where the cool breeze and tranquil setting make it a perfect spot to relax.

The food at Chom Cafe is equally impressive. I had one of the best meals of my trip, enjoying flavorful Pineapple Fried Rice and crispy Vegetable Spring Rolls.

Insider Tip: Order your food first, then take your time snapping photos and videos while you wait. There’s plenty of time to capture the beautiful surroundings, but your food can take time, so that could be the perfect time!

Atlantis Valley

A hidden gem located amidst the mountains of Chiang Mai, Atlantis Valley offers guests a serene escape from the busy side of Chiang Mai.

This cafe and restaurant is part of the Mae Lai Village, a glamping-style resort designed to serve as a retreat and relaxation destination for visitors.

Atlantis Valley serves American food and has a bakery, but it is known for its afternoon tea set, which can be had perched on a balcony with great views of the river.

Sun Rays Cafe

Sun Rays Cafe in Chiang Mai is located in Old Town Chiang Mai and serves breakfast and brunch all day.

The cafe is small and cozy, yet it has great menu offerings, including bread, waffles, club sandwiches, salads, French toast, and lighter breakfast options.

If you’re looking for a cafe in Chiang Mai that offers more of an American breakfast spot, Sun Rays is a great choice! I ordered French toast with eggs, and it was delicious.

Insider Tip: The cafe has extremely limited seating (don’t underestimate how small it is), so I recommend trying to set a reservation or arriving very early to ensure that you can be seated.

Much Room Cafe

Due to its aesthetics, The Much Room Cafe has earned the title of “influencer cafe.”

The building is shaped like mushrooms, and the minimalist interior features plenty of natural light, plants, and modern furnishings, creating an inviting space.

Much Room Cafe also offers a selection of light meals, from savory sandwiches to fresh salads, making it a perfect spot for breakfast or a casual lunch.

Early Owls Cafe

Early Owls Cafe is great if you’re looking for a laid-back atmosphere to enjoy coffee, tea, and light bites.

Known for its warm, inviting ambiance, the cafe is designed with a modern yet rustic touch and is a hideaway spot in Chiang Mai.

The menu offers a selection of specialty coffees made from locally sourced beans and a variety of delicious pastries.

Upon arrival, you can choose to eat inside the cafe, where there are a few seats and tables, or outside, where a staff member will set up a portable chair and table in the spot of your choice.

Insider Tip: If you decide to sit outdoors, bring some bug spray!

Blue & Teak Eatery

Blue and Teak Eatery is a bed and breakfast establishment in Chiang Mai. Its cafe is on the bottom floor, and the accommodation units are upstairs.

Located in a charming area of the city, this eatery has a stylish interior that incorporates rich blue hues and warm teak wood accents.

The menu offers diverse dishes, from traditional Thai favorites to creative Western-inspired options made with fresh, locally sourced ingredients.

Whether you’re in the mood for a hearty breakfast, a light lunch, or a flavorful dinner, Blue and Teak serves up satisfying and beautifully presented meals.

Its inviting ambiance and friendly service make it an ideal place to relax and enjoy a leisurely meal with friends or family.
